The Benefits of Rewiring Your Office Space

As your business grows, you need to make sure that your office space can continue to meet your needs in a way that is both safe and cost-effective. Incorrect or outdated wiring can be a hazard to you and your staff, and can even end up costing you more. If your building is over 40 years old, the wiring may not be strong enough for the electrical demands of modern office life and advanced technology. A total rewire is a big job and a big investment, but it’s worth it in the long run as it can save you financially and bring peace of mind.

The benefits of rewiring your office

With a full office rewire you can create a relaxed office environment, with new office lighting and a well lit environment conducive to good performance. New wiring can also be planned to meet the needs of your staff in an intuitive way during their working day. This could be as simple as enough power points in the conference room to allow everyone to stay connected, to regularly spaced power outputs allowing the cleaning staff can complete their jobs easily.

Many offices now provide employees with kitchen space as well. Whether this is just a plug for a kettle and a microwave or instant boiling water taps, with careful planning this can be incorporated into your office space.

The increased efficiency of rewiring

In addition to high-speed internet coverage, modern offices often require meeting rooms with large wall-mounted monitors for the opportunity to give presentations. Of course, this all has to look and work seamlessly to really impress clients and may require concealed AV and HDMI cables, as well as the option to easily connect laptops and webcams.

In today’s technology-driven world, our data needs to be protected as much as any other company investment; an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) can be used to ensure your servers are always on, no matter what.

Making sure your office environment is safe

Buildings from the 60s and 70s with aluminium wiring can be a risk. It’s not the aluminium itself but the connection and termination points. Over the years, these can become loose and pose a potential fire hazard. Many insurance companies won’t insure buildings with aluminum wiring.

If your office space uses aluminium wiring, you have two options. One is aluminium rejuvenation, it costs less and involves replacing receptacles, switches and connectors in the office with ones that have aluminium ratings, and treating the other connectors with an antioxidant. By far the better option, and the one which will save you in the long run, is to rewire your office with modern copper wire throughout. Although, this will cost more and involve more work initially, once it’s done you’re future proofed and any maintenance costs will be minimal.
